Why and When You Shouldn’t Use WordPress or CMS to Build a Website?

Websites and blogs have started being a crucial part of the business these days. What has once been a challenge is now only a few minutes thing. Yes. We are talking about creating a website. A big thanks to popular CMSs like WordPress, Joomla, etc.

But, this post is not about encouraging you toward being dependent on those tools for building your dream company. We want you to build your dream from scratch. That’s how you would be able to materialize the picture you had on mind into a product – an identity every inch of which totally belong to you.

Before jumping into the reasons why you don’t always need a CMS, we are obliged to lay down the –

Pros of using a CMS to build a site.

1) The process is faster. You could get your site to your customers within no time. All it takes is a few drag and drops, and you could punch that publish button.

2) It is relatively cheaper. You don’t have to break your bank. A domain name rarely crosses 10 dollars these days, and hosting is also cheaper depending upon your need.

3)You don’t need to be a whiz in programming. You don’t have to type even a single line of code. That’s the huge reason why CMSs are cool.

4) When a CMS developer designs you your site, you could start using it without needing him in the future.

Well, it’s time you learn why you shouldn’t always rely on a CMS to build your site?

The CMS culture might be significant for a huge community out there, But, for the people who knew little more than those people do, CMS is a cuff you are getting yourselves on.

The proportion of articles encouraging CMS and those which are against it are uneven. The overwhelming amount of CMS-forcing articles rule the net. Blame it on the marketing efficiency of those companies that are top of the game.

Well, you have got better options than a CMS.

Here are five reasons why …

1) You can never dive into the website creation process with a list of specifications. Even though it seems like they cover it all, their features are limited. You cannot tick all the points in the specifications list.

2) Your business doesn’t always need the plethora of redundant features these CMS provide. You do not want to overwhelm your site with unnecessary features. That does nothing but bloat up your site.

3) If your business relies totally on the site, then the security vulnerabilities in the CMS makes it an easy target for hackers to bring it down. Most people won’t agree on this point. Either they are professionals in CMS who make sure everything’s up-to-date, and there is no vulnerability in the site or their site is not worth spamming on the first hand.

4) As we have mentioned before, hosting and domain do not cost much these days. Still, you do not want to waste your server resources by the overload of redundancies present in the CMS. A standard HTML page does not take up much of the memory and makes every penny you spent on the server worth it.

5) Well, sometimes building a site using HTML templates is way easier than working with the CMS. As a beginner, you might find CMS to be an easier way to building your site. But, when you try to dive in little deeper, it will punch you in the face with features, and limitations which are literally in comprehensive to you.

We do not divert you away from approaching sites like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. That’s not our intention. We just want you to realize that you do not always need a CMS for your site.

Especially, when you are thinking of creating a site which will have the same content for a specific period of time.

For example, an app landing page, basic website with 4/5 pages or maybe your profile page. It doesn’t need a bulky CMS, you can create these types of websites easily and efficiently by static HTML templates by not worrying about server resources, complicated configuration or security.

Static HTML Templates

In simple words, it is a web page in which the contents remain same for all the visitors, and doesn’t go through frequent updates. These pages are faster and don’t waste unnecessary server resources. So yeah, instead of approaching a CMS, you could make use of HTML templates to build your website. There are a lot of Bootstrap / HTML Templates available to make it easy for you.

Now you know the pros, cons, and use cases of Content Management System. It’s up to you to decide whether you need WordPress or a professional Bootstrap Template. Best of luck!
